IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Burton Doerr
Robinson
August 6, 1933 – July 30, 2016
Rapid City – Burton "Burt" Doerr Robinson, 82, Rapid City died Saturday, July 30, 2016 in Rapid City.
The eighth of Ray Walter & Mary Weirich (Doerr) Robinson's nine children, Burt was born on August 6, 1933 in Tyrone Township, Michigan. He was raised on a dairy farm where he grew up milking cows, picking peaches in the orchard, and catching fish in the pond out back. He stayed out of trouble for the most part, though there was an unfortunate incident involving a tractor and a barn wall. (Burt would tell you that was all his younger brother Paul's fault.)
Burt worked various jobs before deciding to join the Army, where he served as a Quartermaster in Korea. He was awarded the Nation Defense Service medal and a Good Conduct medal before being honorably discharged at the end of the Korean War.
Burt was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a life-long member of the NRA. He also loved his International Scout vehicles and was famous for inflating the tires hard and driving fast.
He eventually followed Paul to Rapid City, SD. During the winter of 1972, he was critically injured by a drunk driver, thus changing the course of his life. He spent years recovering in the hospital and later a nursing home. Despite his physical limitations and constant pain, Burt always kept a positive outlook and remained faithful to the Lord. It was during his recovery that he met Clara, the woman he would marry in April of 1977.
Burt & Clara shared many happy years together. Burt was especially known for his volunteer work and his gentle guidance of his nephew, Karl, and his "adopted" grands. No matter our age, we will all miss Burt's teasing and infectious grin.
Burt is survived by his two sisters: Lillian Culver and Ruth Mary (Kenneth) Ott, both of Michigan; his younger brother Paul (Susan) Robinson of Chamberlain, SD, numerous nieces & nephews, and dear friends Ray and Sharol Scholl.
Burt was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, his parents, and five brothers; Emanuel, Robert, Wilfred, Harold, and David.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with a funeral service at 2:00 pm with Rev. Chaplain [Ret] Herb B. Cleveland officiating.
Burial will take place at Pine Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Rapid City with full military honors.
