Obituary

Summerset – Carl Silver, 85, died Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care, Sturgis, SD.

Carl Adrian Silver was born March 15, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa to Roy Oliver and Winifred Rose [Vertz] Silver. He grew to adulthood on a farm outside Altoona, IA with five brothers two sisters. Carl was the youngest.

After graduation from high school he met and married Christine Kathleen Hart on September 2, 1951 at Des Moines. They resided in Des Moines and Ankeny, Iowa. They have a daughter and two sons, all born in Des Moines.

In October of 1955 Carl was employed by Firestone Tire & Rubber Company in their retread division in Des Moines. He was employed as plant manager, living in Chicago, IL; Mishawaka, IN; Worthington, MN; and Kansas City, MO until December 1983 when he retired from the company.

He and his wife returned to Worthington and they became co-managers of the Worthington Country Club until August of 1986 when they moved to Sun City, AZ where they were both employed for several years. In October of 2007 they moved to Summerset, SD

Carl was a member of the Masonic  Lodge in Worthington and Laverne Shrine Club in Laverne, MN. He was also an active member of the Oaze Cycle Patrol until his move to Arizona. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Worthington, Grace United Methodist Church in Piedmont and the Senior Citizen Center in Piedmont

Survivors include his wife: Christine Silver of Summerset, SD; one daughter: Karlene [Rob] Silver-Heidebrink of Piedmont, SD; two sons: Craig A. [Nancy] Silver of St. Paul, MN and Curt L. Silver of Worthington, MN; one granddaughter: Samantha Silver of St. Louis Park, MN; two brothers: Keith Silver of Des Moines, IA and Wilbur Silver of Des Moines, IA; and one sister: Evelyn Little of Sun City, AZ.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Roy, Ralph, and Donald; and one sister: Wilma Newquist.

Memorial service will be 11:00 am Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Grace United Methodist Church,10060 Foothill Drive, Piedmont, SD.
