Obituary

Carl H. Sprague, 60, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital on Monday, January 2, 2012. Carl was born in Coos Bay, Oregon on March 4, 1951, to Homer and Ruth (Wagner) Sprague. He grew up in Pendleton, Oregon and Anchorage, Alaska. He served as a Sergeant in the US Army MP's and served in Vietnam. After he returned from the Army, Carl was a counselor with Behavior Management, worked as a jailor with Pennington County jail and worked in maintenance at Central High School. People liked to be around him because of his wit and magnetic personality and he loved his dog, Charlie. Survivors include his daughter, Carla (Chris) Sprague-Marvin, Rapid City; his mother and step-father, Ruth and Herb Boos; Rapid City; a brother, Ricky (Mona) Sprague, California; 2 sisters, Shannon Anderson, Alaska and Jenifer (Sidney) Nachtigal, Rapid City and 5 grandchildren, Shelbie, Chase, Tessie, Skye and Cash. He was preceded in death by his fathers, Robert Farrens in 1993 and Homer Sprague in 1989 and his best friend, James Snipes, IV, last month. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Chaplain H. B. Cleveland officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota Army Reserve, will follow in Black Hills National Cemetery.
