RAPID CITYCarmi J. Odegaard, 87, of Rapid City and formerly of Brookings, died in Rapid City on Friday, January 18, 2013. Carmi was born in Volga to Joseph A. and Selma O'Nora (Stordahl) Odegaard and graduated from high school there in 1943. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and graduated from Augustana College in 1950. He worked in the insurance and real estate business and retired as the Chief Appraiser for the SD DOT. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Odegaard, Rapid City; 3 sons, Steve (Mary) Odegaard, Hiawatha, IA and Les (Ferne) and Joe (Juli) Odegaard, all of Rapid City; a daughter, LeeAnne (Dave) England, Rapid City; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, at South Canyon Lutheran Church in Rapid City with the Rev. Bruce Thalacker officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota ARNG, will be at 2:00 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery. Memorials have been established to South Canyon Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway, Borgund Lodge.
