RAPID CITYCarol M. Bennett Dorsey, 75, of Rapid City, passed away at Rapid City Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 2, 2009. Carol Marie Schmitt was born on the family farm, October 6, 1933, near Epiphany, S.D. to Frank J. and Nettie G. (Bartscher) Schmitt. She grew up in the Epiphany area and attended grade school at St. Mary's in Epiphany and high school at Mount Marty in Yankton, S.D. She graduated in 1952 and was then employed in Mitchell at Weller Insurance Company and for the State Highway Department. On January 6, 1956, she was united in marriage to Robert 'Bob' Bennett in Mitchell. The family resided in Mitchell until 1964, when they moved to Rapid City. Carol began her career in the banking industry with First National Bank of the Black Hills at the positions of trustee, comptroller and branch manager. First National became Norwest from where Carol retired in 1993 after 29 years. She was a member of the National Association for Bank Women, Investment Club, American Business Women and Zonta. Carol was well known for her leadership, competence, dedication, integrity and commitment to continuing education both in her personal and professional life. Her love of family and dedication to church and community reflect her deep faith in God. Her husband Bob, passed away in April of 1996. Carol was united in marriage to Robert 'Bob' Dorsey on July 28, 2000, at Blessed Sacrament Church. Involvement at Blessed Sacrament Church as a hospitality greeter, Eucharistic minister and with a core group founded for the social needs of the parish's senior citizens, was very important to her. Carol served for many years with the 12 Apostles, assisting with funeral receptions and was also a volunteer for the Pennington County Sheriff's Department. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Bob Dorsey, Rapid City; two sons, Mike (Deb) Bennett, Gillette, WY and Mark (Cindy) Bennett, Rapid City; two daughters, Tammy (Mike) Daly, Wheatland, WY and Kelly (Marty) Hotovec, Rapid City; and her son in law, John Lundstrom, Lake Forest, Ill: three sisters, Sr. Madonna Schmitt, O.S.B., Yankton, Shirley (Darell) Eich, Rapid City and Janice (Ray) Wermers, Watertown; two step-sons, Donald (Jan) Dorsey, Las Vegas, NV and Kevin (Katie) Dorsey, Lenexa, KS; two step-daughters, Angela (Shaun) Rossow, Rapid City and Debra (Todd) Holan, Rapid City; 11 grandchildren, Brittany, Jay, Sam, Lauren, Jonathan, Joe, Maggie, Brett, Brooke, Madi and Molli, 8 step-grandchildren, Erika, Chase, Jayme, Cooper, Kelsie, Megan, Emily and Addison. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Bob Bennett, a daughter, Cathy Lundstrom in 1998 and a brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Cheryle Schmitt. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 5th from 5 until 7 p.m., with a Christian wake service at 7:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church. Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, at Blessed Sacrament Church with Father Dan Juelfs officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow mass. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation National Headquarters, 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, Maryland 20814; or to the Frank & Nettie Schmitt Endowed Scholarship, Mount Marty College, 1105 W. 8th St., Yankton, SD 57078.
