RAPID CITY--Carolyn Hanchett, 88, passed away at a local nursing home on Sunday, January 4, 2009. Carolyn was born on April 13, 1920, in Vienna, SD, to Gilbert and Edna (Eggen) Ostroot. She grew up in Vienna was married to Donald Hanchett and moved to California. There, she worked as a telephone operator for 40 years. Carolyn retired in 1990 and she and Donald moved to Rapid City in 1992. Carolyn was a member of South Canyon Lutheran Church and Telephone Pioneers. Survivors include her sister, Doris Wellman, Rapid City; a nephew, Bill (Cindy) Wellman, Rapid City and 2 nieces, Jackie (Ken) Theisen, Minneapolis, MN and Diane (Tom) Manske, Pacatello, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, in 2000 and a brother-in -law, Jack Wellman in 1999. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan 6, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Thalacker officiating. Interment will follow in Black Hills National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to South Canyon Lutheran Church.
