Obituary

Rapid City - Catherine (Dolly) J. Soder, 68 of Rapid City, died Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Rapid City Regional Hospital of an acute infection. She was born to William and Bridget (Grant) Drohan in Waterford Ireland on June 25, 1942. Dolly met John Soder and they were married in Waterford in 1963. They lived in Dublin until John, a service man in the USAF, was transferred to Laredo, TX. Shirley and Susan, their first two children, were born in Texas. Known in the states as Cathy she lived in Rapid City with the two girls and made many lifelong friends while John served in Vietnam. The Soders moved to Sewart AFB in Tennessee and their daughter Kelly was born there. The family was stationed oversees in England and Germany. Returning to the states, Cathy gave birth to Sean Michael at Norton AFB in California. Many moves followed: England, Charleston SC, Las Vegas NV, and they retired to Rapid City SD. Cathy spent much of her time with family and friends. Retiring allowed a greater freedom for traveling with her husband, John. Some of her favorite moments were spent with her fifteen grandchildren, outings with friends, walking miles along any beach, and returning home to Waterford. Cathy was the heart of her extended close knit family. She was much loved in life and will be missed every day by all who knew her. Cathys family included: her husband John, daughter Shirley Thompson, (husband Tom and children Deidre, Nicholas, and William), daughter Susan McNulty, (husband Sean and children Seanna, Dustin, Jordan, Jill, Casey, Nathan, and Callee), daughter Kelly Blackman, (husband Brian and children Trevor, Declan, and Elcie), and son, Sean Soder, (wife Rachel and children Christian and Kate), sisters Maureen Power (Teddy), Breda OHara (John); brothers Michael Drohan (Angela) , and John Drohan (deceased).
