Obituary

Rapid City - Charles "Ron" Koehne, 89, Rapid City, died Monday, May 06, 2013 at the Golden Living Center-Black Hills. Ron was born February 26, 1924 at Oldham, SD to Charles L. and Myrtle O. [Hanson] Koehne where he grew to adulthood with his family and he attended school at Oldham graduating from Oldham High School. Ron moved to Rapid City in 1942. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946 when he received his honorable discharge as a Corporal and received the American Theater Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal and he then served in the Air Force Reserve from 1949 to 1952 for the Korean Conflict and he was honorable discharged as an Airman First Class. After his discharge he then entered college at Black Hills State University and received his degree in engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. With his degree in teaching he was the shop teacher at Dakota Middle School, Stevens High School, and Central High School for 35 years. He then drove bus for Graylines Bus Company for 30 years and then has his own business of Ron's Tour Services. He loved the Black Hills and the history of the Black Hills. He loved to tell stories and he liked to talk a lot. He loved working on P38 air craft. He worked on it while in the military and he loved the military. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents: Chas and Myrtle; and one sister: Shirley Koehne Engals; brother in law: Hal. He is survived by Kelly J. Larson, Kelly A. Larson, his godchildren: Eklto K. Larson, Danielle Baker, and Brittany Williams, and several nieces and nephews. Per Ron's request there will be a graveside service at10:00 am Monday, May13, 2013 with Chaplain [Ret.] Herb B. Cleveland officiating at Black Hills National Cemetery with full military honors provided by Ellsworth Air Force 28th Bomb Wing Honor Guard.
