Rapid City - Charles "Charlie" Richard Parker, 83, died Friday, May 2, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Charles Richard Parker was born to Melvin and Jessie [Jarvis] Parker on September 16, 1930 on his grandparent's farm in Tilford, South Dakota. Charlie graduated from Piedmont High School in 1949. He joined the United States Army and served his country from 1951-53. Upon his return home from the service, he went to work for Black Hills Packing Company and retired from his position when the plant closed in the late 1980's. Charlie married Georgia Harden on August 14, 1965 in Sturgis, SD. He was an avid fisherman and loved attending activities throughout the Black Hills. He spent many retirement hours chauffeuring and visiting elderly friends and relatives. Charlie is survived by his wife: Georgia Parker of Rapid City; one stepson: Donny Harden of Hot Springs; several grandchildren including R.J. Harden of Texas; one brother: Dean [Hazel] Parker of Hazen, ND; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a loving, helpful, and caring neighbor and friend: Wendy Cummings and her family. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 pm Thursday, May 8 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Friday, May 9 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Chaplain [Ret] Herb B. Cleveland officiating and Eulogist Tom Hayes. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Rushmore VFW Post #1273 and South Dakota Army National Guard. Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of the Black Hills.
