RAPID CITY- Charles D. "Chuck" Volin, 67, passed away Monday, October 4, 2021, peacefully in his sleep.
Chuck was born September 19, 1954, in Belle Fourche, SD to Charles and Peggy Volin. He was the 4 th of five children, the first son.
He moved with his family from the ranch, the Volin Homestead, on the Little Missouri River near Camp Crook, SD in 1961 and started life in the big city of Rapid City.
In his youth he was very involved in the sports baseball, basketball, track, and cross country. That boy could run!! He also coached a Pony league baseball team, to one game away from the World Series. He loved the game of poker and was always out to win no matter the cost.
Right out of high school he moved to Gillette, WY and worked in the oil fields. Chuck moved back to Rapid City to work for Barber Transportation for a short time. He ended his working career at Nash Finch, retiring after 28 years.
He was married to the love of his life, Shelley Fahrenwald, for 34 years. Together they had five children.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jacob; wife, Shelley; sister, Connie Baertsch; nephew, Scott Baertsch; brother-in-law, Dave Hunsaker.
Survivors include sisters: Lynda (Nick) Reed; Dixie Hunsaker; brother, Leo Volin; sons: Tony (Dana) Fahrenwald; Shawn (Meghan) Volin; Chaz Volin; daughter, Chelsey Volin (Shane); and 12 grandchildren.
Chuck will truly be missed by his family and friends.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 15 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.
