RAPID CITY- Christopher B. Mason, 42, died unexpectedly, Friday, July 13, 2012 at home. Chris was born on March 6, 1970 in Fargo, ND to Burt and Gretchen (Sailer) Mason. When he was six months old, the family moved to Chandler, Arizona and six months later to Lompoc, CA, and three months after that back to North Dakota. Grand Forks AFB was his home for eight years. He attended school at Carl Ben Eielson Elementary. When he was nine years old, the family moved to Rapid City. He attended school at Grandview Elementary, South Jr. High, and graduated from Central High School in 1988. Chris enlisted in the Army in 1989. He was stationed at Ft. Carson, Colorado. He served in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He returned to Ft. Carson and then was sent to Korea for a year. After he returned to the states and was discharged, he came home to Rapid City. He was ASE certified in auto repair and held several jobs in the auto parts business. At the time of his death, he was employed by Dakota Battery. Chris enjoyed playing his guitar, watching NASCAR & NHRA races in person and on TV, cooking tasty dishes, and spending time with his family and friends. Chris is survived by his parents, brothers, Eric and Jeff (Laura), and special niece and nephew Merrick and Grady Mason, all of Rapid City; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2012 at Calvary Lutheran Church, with Rev. Dwight Stensgaard officiating. Interment with full military honors provided by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
