Obituary

Christopher Alan Buum, 26, went to his heavenly Father on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008. He was born on Feb. 8, 1982, in Rapid City to Dennis A. and Mary Kay (Pesek) Buum. He grew up in Rapid City and attended South Canyon and Pinedale Elementary Schools, West Middle School and Stevens High School, from which he graduated in 2000. Everyone who knew Chris knew he was an exceptionally talented musician. In his school years, he performed locally with the band Amnesia. He was a two-time winner of Haggerty's Guitar Wars and went on to judge the event. After high school he traveled to Los Angeles to pursue his rock-and-roll dream. There he performed in a number of venues with his band, Left of East and continued to write music. Later, he moved to Denver, where he continued to compose and perform music and began a new career as an electrician. Last November, he returned home to Rapid City to be in his circle of love with his family and friends. Along with his music, Chris loved to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting deer in the Black Hills and was an up-and-coming rockhound, always on the hunt for Fairburn agates with his father and uncles. He took great pleasure in the outdoors, and climbed two 14,000 foot mountains in Colorado with his mother and friends. He is survived by his parents, Dennis and Mary Kay Buum, Rapid City; his sister, Jessica Cleereman and her husband, Jon, Des Moines, IA; his grandmothers, Aleatha Pesek and Lois Buum, both of Rapid City; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Ralph Pesek and Orin Buum. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a prayer service and time of sharing at 6:30 p.m., today at the Calvary Lutheran Church, 5311 Sheridan Lake Rd. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Calvary Lutheran Church, with Pastor Dwight Stensgaard officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Front Porch Coalition, Black Hills Suicide Survivors or Calvary Lutheran Church. Services are under the direction of Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
