IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cindy
Baird
October 3, 1957 – September 6, 2021
Cindy Baird was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world after a long battle with cancer on September 6, 2021 at age 63.
She was born to Harry and Elizabeth "Libby" Wingert on October 3, 1957 in Port Jervis, New York and grew up in the small town of Yulan, New York.
She is survived by her husband Tom, three sons Steven, Michael, Patrick, one granddaughter Elizabeth, and a number of other loving relatives and close friends.
Cindy was the second oldest of six children. She is survived by her three sisters, Sandy and husband Bob Decker, JoAnn and husband John Genninger, Lori Ann and her husband Gabor Dezso. As well as her two brothers Steven Wingert, Harry Wingert Jr. and his wife Beverly, and brother-in-law Bob Baird.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Harry Wingert. As well as her in-laws, Wesley and Katherine Baird, and brother-in-law Bill Baird.
She married her high school sweetheart Thomas "Tom" Baird on March 13 th , 1976. After a short honeymoon they loaded everything they owned (three avocado green toasters and two harvest gold electric mixers) into the back of a 1976 Toyota pick-up truck and headed west.
They arrived in Rapid City, SD and started there 45 year journey together. There they raised three sons, Steven, Michael, Patrick, and one granddaughter Elizabeth.
Cindy was a legendary cook. She loved to cook (not so much cleaning up) and could cook a five course meal in 20 minutes. This feat was performed on almost a nightly schedule. She was known for her holiday feasts. There was never any doubt as to who was going to cook the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter dinners. She will be a tough act to follow.
Cindy had many jobs but the one she loved and excelled at was sales. She loved interacting with people. She would always say, "Find out what people want, not what you think they need."
Cindy and Tom purchased Unpainted Furniture in the summer of 2005. They ran it as a family business with all three sons working there at different times. The store was closed in fall of 2017 due to her illness.
No funeral or memorial services are immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones in the future when a service is scheduled.
