RAPID CITY - Claire Felice Schurger Maron, 92, Rapid City, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House. Claire was born Feb. 26, 1916, in St. Paul, Minn., and moved to Rapid City at age five. She attended elementary and high school locally and moved to St. Paul to attend the University of Minnesota in 1936. She married Henry E. Maron in 1940 and they then started their journey together. Henry's employment, first in private industry and in the defense industry during World War II, including working on the Manhattan Project, took them to six states and 13 cities, where Claire served as homemaker and mother to two sons. Henry and Claire returned to Minneapolis in 1965, where she was a longtime volunteer at St. Timothy's Catholic Church and active in senior center programs. She especially enjoyed traveling, both with the seniors and with her husband and sons, to places far and near, including Hawaii and Tahiti. Claire moved back to Rapid City in 2001. Survivors include two sons, Richard (Sharon) Maron, Upland, Calif., and Michael (Martha) Maron, Rapid City; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul (Millie) Schurger and Robert (Leotta) Schurger, both of Rapid City; a sister, Julie Schurger Barton, Greeley, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Isabelle Schurger; her husband, Henry E. Maron; and a sister, Norman Jean Chamberlain. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Andrzej Wyrostek presiding. Interment will be Monday, Sept. 8, at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Minneapolis.
