RAPID CITY- Clara M. Fuhrer, 93, Rapid City died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at her sons home in Ankeny, Iowa with family at her side. Clara was born Nov. 27, 1918 in Naper, Neb to Louis and Anna (Schultz) Kortmeyer. Clara was united in marriage to Reuben Fuhrer on April 9, 1942 in Naper, Neb. After Reuben's discharge from the service the couple moved to Rapid City in 1946. She cleaned motels for money when she first got to Rapid. She also did in-home daycare during the day and cleaned medical clinics at night for over 50 years. Clara was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Survivors include her sons Marlin (Doris) Fuhrer; Ankeny, IA, Roy Fuhrer; Rapid City David (Judy) Fuhrer; Rapid City; two daughters, Sharon Elonzae; Rapid City and Carolyn (Mike) Vincent; Rapid City; three sisters; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Reuben, her parents, one brother and three sisters. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 12:00 noon, Thursday, April 12, at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. David Schwan officiating. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. A memorial has been established to Zion Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran School.
