Clara Josepine Montileaux, 89, of Rapid City and Kyle, SD, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital at Rapid City. Clara J. Montileaux was born December 1, 1921 at Rockyford, SD, and left this world on December 7th 2010 to join her husband Jumbo. She grew up around the Rockyford area and went to the local Day School until she left for the boarding school at Holy Rosary Indian Mission, Pine Ridge SD and returned home before completing high school to help with family. She moved to Rapid City with her husband and worked odd jobs until she started at Buckingham Lumber Mill and then at St. Johns Hospital in the diet kitchen on 2nd floor. In 1966 Jumbo and Clara and their son Donnie moved back to their home at Kyle, SD to resume ranching and with additional cattle purchased with an FHA loan. They worked hard and were successful in ranching and Jumbo became well known for his ability to train great ranch horses. Clara was a companion and worked side-by-side with her husband until his passing on June 6, 2004. She was active in ranch work even though she moved to Rapid City to be closer to her son and his family; she still managed her ranch at Kyle. The welcome mat was always out at their home in Kyle, or Rapid City, and the cowboy coffee and food was shared by many a good friend. Jumbo and Clara always gave solid advise and Clara was the salt of the earth and Jumbo was the pepper. Jumbo always said he wanted on his headstone, Here lays a Cowboy, and right by my side is my Cowgirl. She married Floyd Jumbo Montileaux in June 1947 and they had one son. Survived by their son Donald and his wife Paulette, Rapid City, SD, three grandchildren Dawn (& Garettt) Dugan, Kyle, SD, Christopher Montileaux and his two daughters Emily and Miranda, and youngest granddaughter Ashley Kyle Montileaux; one brother Kenneth Steele, Rapid City, SD; Madonna Adams, Rapid City, SD; DelRae Colman, Ephrata, PA; Barbara McGirt, North Richland Hills, TX, and many nieces and nephews, and friends.
