Obituary

Clarence A. "Mitch" Mitchell, 91, died Monday, February 26, 2018 at a local nursing home.

He was born on October 30, 1926 in Danvers, Montana to Alfred and Opal (Payne ) Mitchell.

Service arrangements are pending with Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Mitch grew up in Danvers, graduating from Denton High School in 1943. He joined the United States Navy in 1943, serving in the Pacific during the closing days of WWII and was honorably discharged in 1952.

He came to Rapid City in 1962 and became a journeyman electrician, working on the missile sites, various electric power plants and numerous other projects in the Black Hills.

Mitch married Bea Jonas in 1985.

After the loss of his wife, Bea, Mitch developed a passion for golf and would tell anyone who would listen about his "holes in one".

He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electricians, a lifetime member of Rushmore VFW Post 1273, serving for many years on the Military Honors Team.

Mitch is survived by his children, Gary (Pam) Mitchell, Rapid City, Steven Mitchell, Roundup, MT, Larry Joe (Bonnie) Mitchell, Kingman, AZ, Connie Murray, Bend, OR, Barbara Quilling, Seattle, WA, Stephen (Patricia) Jonas, Brian Jonas, Rapid City and Vickie Hamling, all of Rapid City and Marsha (Mike) Stanley, Tuscon, AZ, 20 Grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, his brother, Paul C. (Mona) Mitchell, Cisne, Il, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bea Jonas, and his sisters: Frances and Josephine and his brothers; Jim, Ken, Basil, Fred, Dwight (DW), Gene and Harold.

Military honors will be presented at Black Hills National Cemetery on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 2:00pm. A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday, March 10 at 4:00pm at the VFW Post home in Rapid City. Inurnment of his ashes will take place in June at the Lewistown City Cemetery in Lewistown, Montana.

A memorial has been established by the family.
