RAPID CITY- Clarion J. Dahl, 88, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born September 14, 1927 in Sioux Falls, to June Dahl (Rusten). His father Clifford died before Clarion was born, and June later married Sam Husby. Clarion attended school in Canton, and joined the Merchant Marines before graduating, but returned to earn his high school diploma. During his time with the Merchant Marines, he traveled around the world, and later, after enlisting in the United States Army, he served in Europe. In Germany, he met Ingeborg (Inga) Gewalt, who he married in 1951. After his discharge, they moved to Rapid City, where Clarion worked as a mechanic for many years at Hills Brake and Equipment and Godfrey Brake Service. Clarion was an avid fisherman, especially enjoying ice fishing on Sheridan Lake. Clarion's survivors include his children: Cliff (Debbie) Dahl and Julie Dahl of Rapid City; Lori Cubbage, Muscatine, IA; grandchildren: Michelle Bender, Kyle (Tracy) Goodrick, Julie Dahl (Bruce Jensen), Jennifer Crotty (Brandon Jensen), and Jason (Sarah) Dahl; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his best friend and wife, Inga Dahl; parents, June Husby and Clifford Dahl, stepfather, Sam Husby; sister, Lois Husby, and granddaughter Hope Cubbage. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 15, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Rev. Herb B. Cleveland officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the MEALS Program.
