RAPID CITY-Claudette J. Lewis, 79, went to her heavenly reward on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at her home in Rapid City, SD. She was born on March 3, 1937 in Van Buren, Maine to Mamie and Chester Lapointe.
Claudette grew up in Van Buren, Maine where she graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1956.
Claudette married Lyle "Dean" Lewis in 1959 in Van Buren, Maine. They were happily married 57 years. After saying "I Do" she moved with her husband numerous times with the Air Force which included Texas, Indiana, New York, Puerto Rico, Washington and South Dakota where she and her husband retired. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Rapid City, SD and enjoyed serving her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a servant to all.
Mom's occupation was homemaker, "domestic engineer "we'll call it. There was pride in keeping her home tidy and providing scrumptious meals. Claudette was a servant to all which included her husband, children, grandchildren and many times airmen from the nearby Air Force Base. She could be caught humming her favorite tune while doing these daily duties.
Later in life Alzheimer's took over and as her abilities diminished, the love from her husband and children did not. She was well cared for in her home until her passing.
Claudette was preceded in death by her parents Chester and Mamie Lapointe and brothers Elmer and Joseph Lapointe.
Claudette is survived by her husband Lyle D. Lewis of Rapid City, SD; her son Alan Lewis of Rapid City, SD; her daughters Carolyn Keehner (Fish), Rapid City; Marilyn Sewell, Rapid City and Shari Goldsmith of Spokane, WA; brothers Patrick "Jean" Lapointe, Richard Lapointe, Mike Lapointe and Patrick Lapointe of Van Buren, Maine along with sister Marlene Maldonado, Van Buren, ME, and Geneva Cole, Lynn, Massachusetts; ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and their children, and other relatives.
A special note of thanks to her caretakers Cindy Turner, Lauren Peak and Carrie Martin. Mom was loved by them. Cindy lovingly called her "Sweetpea".
Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with a Christian Wake Service at 6:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Brian Lane presiding.
Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
