Rounseville
November 18, 1927 – March 13, 2016
STURGIS | Due to complications of pneumonia, Cleo Lucinda Rounseville went to rest in the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, March 13, 2016, while receiving compassionate care at Sturgis Regional Senior Care.
Cleo was born on Nov. 18, 1927, in Chinook, MT, to Marvin B. and Elizabeth (Larson) Wade. Her lovely middle name, Lucinda, is after her grandmother on her father's side. She moved with her parents to Arlington, SD, when she was very young and lived with her family on a lovely farm on Lake Poinsett. Cleo attended Lakton District 36 school and graduated from Arlington High School.
Following high school graduation, Cleo moved to the west coast, where she was employed in general office work. She met Philip Duffy at a dance and they married on Nov. 2, 1951. Their daughter, Lorrie Beth was born on Sept. 28, 1959, and died the following day. Philip died unexpectedly on April 10, 1985, after 34 years of marriage.
After Philip's death, Cleo moved to Rapid City to be with her family. Cleo converted to Catholicism with her marriage to Ray Rounseville on Oct. 21, 1993. Ray passed away June 30, 2006, following 13 years of marriage.
Cleo loved her family dearly and contacted them frequently. She enjoyed visiting and laughing with friends, looking at family pictures, painting by number, reading and listening to music, especially that of Danny O'Donnell and Charlie Pride. Her favorite season was spring, when new life blossomed. She loved nature, especially flowers. Cleo was a classy dresser who loved to wear bright colors and lovely necklaces and earrings and to have her beautiful white hair styled. She was a courageous woman who persevered despite her loss of many loved ones and other life challenges. She cared about others and had a generous heart.
Cleo is survived by her loving niece, Susan Todd and nephew Gary Duffy of Klamath Falls, OR, and many other nieces and nephews; special Rapid City friends, Dennis and Rebecca Fitzpatrick, Judy Hasenohrl, LaVae Dunn, and Kalynn Scoular
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Lorrie Beth; her parents; her husbands, Philip and Ray; her older sister and only sibling, Bernice; and many other dear relatives and friends.
Christian Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 18, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rapid City, where she was a member for 23 years. Visitation will be one hour prior to mass. Interment will be at the Arlington (SD) City Cemetery.
