Obituary

RAPID CITY - Clifford A. Meyer, 83, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at Golden Living Center- Meadowbrook. He was born January 31, 1928, in Hoven, South Dakota to Joseph and Frances (Schmidt) Meyer. On November 24, 1947, Cliff married Evelyn Artz and together they had ten children. Cliff was the regional manager for Banker's Life and Casualty Insurance Company for 30 years. He loved sports and was a Denver Broncos fan. He enjoyed hunting and carpentry work. Cliff loved gardening for much of his life on his quarter acre garden. He also enjoyed music; he grew up singing with his family in the church choir. When he was younger, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Moose Lodge. Cliff maintained a good sense of humor throughout his life. He worked and played hard. He encouraged and supported all of his children with their involvement in various activities. Survivors include six sons, Jerry Meyer, Black Hawk, Tom Meyer, Longmont, Colo., Dick (Caroline) Meyer, Fort Collins, Colo., Joe (Deidre) Meyer, Lander, Wyo., Jim (Deb) Meyer, Rapid City, and John Meyer, Oklahoma City; daughters, Jane Meyer, Black Hawk, Mary (Lynn) Geitz and Linda (Ty) Reber, both of Rapid City, and Kathy Thoreson, Boardman, Ohio; the mother of his children, Evelyn Meyer, Rapid City; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Maurice (Naomi) Meyer, North Branch, Minn., and Don (Alayne) Meyer, Sioux Falls; and sisters, Marilyn Schabauer, Rapid City, Irene (Gene) Lutz, Houston, and Vivian Buckley, Georgetown, Colo. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, with a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with the Rev. Steve Biegler presiding. Burial will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park.
