Obituary

RAPID CITY--Clotis Addie Matthiesen, 89, of Rapid City, died Sunday, January 4, 2009 at home surrounded by her family. She was born February 6, 1919, in Lee county, NC, to June and Ella Hunter. She grew up in North Carolina, where she graduated from business college. On October 2, 1942, she married Earl Matthiesen in Charlotte, NC. The couple lived in North Carolina until moving to Rapid City in 1945. Earl and Clotis owned and operated EARLS POULTRY AND EGG MARKET in Rapid City until retirement. They enjoyed spending their winters together in Apache Junction, AR. They were avid dancers and enjoyed going to dances on a regular basis. She was always a giver. She took great pleasure in caring for her family. Sje especially loved to cook, travel, fish, sew clothes and can vegetables from the garden. Her great grandchildren loved to spend many hours on grandmas lap. Survivors include her husband, Earl, Rapid City; two daughters, Sandy Trowbridge and her husband Dave, Rapid City and Vicki Alton and her husband Alan, Rapid City; a sister Ann Sabillie, Florida; a brother Felton Murray; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Mike in 1977. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan 7, at Hope Christian Reformed Church, 202 E. Philadelphia St. with Pastor John Keizer officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of the Hills.
