IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Corinne M
Ausmann
January 23, 1947 – August 14, 2022
Corinne Marie Ausmann passed away at her home in Rapid City on Sunday, August 14th, 2022 at the age of 75.
Corinne was born to Lawrence and Dorothy Michael on January 23, 1947 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and was the middle of three sisters. When Corinne was 2 years old, the family moved from Sioux Falls to Rapid City where she spent the rest of her childhood. Corinne graduated from Central High School in Rapid City in 1965 and went on to attend Black Hills State College where she met her husband, Damon, in class. Corinne and Damon were married in Rapid City four days after Corinne's 20th birthday on January 27, 1967. Three years later in September 1970, Corinne and Damon had their first son, Jason, and their second son, Jeffrey, in August 1972. Together, the family ventured on many exciting road trips, including to D.C., Seattle, Disneyland, and even Canada.
In her career, Corinne spent more than 30 years in the legal system, beginning as a legal secretary, advancing to paralegal, and then as Court Administrator for the 7th Circuit Court in Rapid City. She went on to become part-owner of Western Souvenirs and Specialties and started an embroidery shop with her husband, Damon. Following that adventure, Corinne continued her work as a paralegal for DeMersseman, Jensen, Tellinguisen & Huffman until 2020.
Corinne is survived by her husband of 55 years, Damon Ausmann, her sisters Connie Miller of East Wenatchee, WA and Carol Street of Vienna, IL, sons Jason (Mickie) Ausmann of Wall, SD and Jeffrey Ausmann of Rapid City, SD, grandchildren Caitlin and Cameron Ausmann, and a host of nieces and nephews. Corinne is preceded in death by her parents.
Corinne will always be remembered by her infectious laugh (affectionately referred to as her "turkey call" by family). Corinne was the light in every room and made even strangers feel lucky to be around her. She enjoyed golfing, and those who were fortunate enough to be in her group always caught a giggle from her windy ways. "Tootie" and her sisters were quilting fanatics and even had people waiting in line for her comedic quips at sister Connie's annual "by-the-yard" fabric sale. Trips to the family cabin were full of laughter, and Corinne never passed up a good board game. She was an accomplished Pictionary competitor, and she and her son, Jason, enjoyed teaming up to baffle everyone with their unique artistry. She and Connie played many a game of Scrabble together back in the day, and rumor has it there was always a bit of serious competition between them, too. Corinne enjoyed secretly sharing stories of her sons' "wild days" with her grandchildren while remaining suspiciously quiet about her own. In addition to being proud of her family, she was also Elton John's biggest fan, being fortunate enough to see him in concert four times. She, her son, Jeff, and Connie traveled frequently together, creating many memories. When the makers of Busch Light recover from the dip in sales, may they tip one in her memory.
The family will be sharing memories of Corinne - a wonderful woman, wife, mom, sister, and "Granny"- at the Rapid City Elks Lodge on Sunday, August 21st from 1-3 PM. All who have had the opportunity to know and love Corinne know she loved a good laugh; feel welcome to stop by, say hi, and share a story.
