Cornelia "Helen" Logan was born on Christmas Day, 1919, to Mayo Ross and Katherine (Ebbenga) Muser on the family farm near Erwin, SD. She passed from this life on November 26, 2024 at the Monument Hospice House in Rapid City.

Helen grew up in the Erwin vicinity and graduated from Erwin High School in 1939.  She later moved to DeSmet and worked in several local businesses.  Always up for an adventure, she traveled with friends and family whenever she had the opportunity.  During WWII she had two brothers and a sister in the Service, so Helen went to Seattle and stayed with relatives to work at a USO Club, visiting and dancing with the soldiers as they came through.  Upon returning to DeSmet, she took a job at the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company where she was working the switchboard the day news came in that WWII had ended.  She continued to work for Ma Bell until 1953.

Helen and William Logan were married in Bryant, SD on December 11, 1950 and moved to their farm southwest of DeSmet.  They worked side-by-side in the fields, taking care of livestock, and raising their children, Cindy and Bill Jr.  She spent many hours tending her flowers and garden, and did lots of cooking, canning and baking.  You could always count on her cookie jar being full of tasty treats.  She and Bill loved to dance and spent many weekends on the dance floor with friends from the Prairie Pals Square Dance Club or some other dance venue in the area.

When they retired from farming, Bill and Helen began spending winters in Arizona with a group of fellow DeSmet snowbirds sightseeing and exploring the Southwest.  Helen enjoyed taking classes in doll-making, painting, quilting, and other crafts, and she and Bill were always on the lookout for a dance or an opportunity to play cards and socialize with their friends.

She was involved in the DeSmet community as a 4-H leader, Cub Scout den mother, Kingsbury County Extension Board member, delivered Meals On Wheels and volunteered at Good Sam.  She was a member of the United Church of Christ, the Let's Go Club, Study Club, and weekly card groups.  In 2015 Helen reluctantly left DeSmet, family and lifelong friends to be closer to her children in Rapid City.  Here wonderful new friends welcomed her to Sandstone Ridge and she truly felt at home there.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, parents Mayo and Katherine Muser, sister Mareldine Blake, brothers Calvin, LeRoy, Lyle and Darrel Muser, and a special cousin Margaret Schultz.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter Cindy (Dan) Hendricks, son Bill (Lori) Logan;  grandchildren Justin (Jenny) Logan, Daniel Logan,  Cassie Nesheim, Dan (Karen) Hendricks, and David (Robin) Hendricks; great grandchildren Hazel and Gus Logan, Storm Rogers, Sophia Nesheim, Joshua, Mary and Cooper Hendricks; numerous nieces and  nephews, cousins and dear friends.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Monument Home Health+ Hospice and the Monument Hospice House for the exceptional care Mom received in her last months.  They truly are angels here on Earth.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at the Osheim-Schmidt Funeral Home at 1:00 PM.  Burial will take place at St. Thomas Cemetery in DeSmet at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of the giver's choice, Monument Home Health+ Hospice in Rapid City, or the DeSmet Hospital Foundation, DeSmet Fire/Ambulance Service or the Hazel L. Meyer Memorial Library, DeSmet.
