Rapid City - Craig Paul Greenwalt, 62, Rapid City, passed away early Sunday morning, December 9, 2012 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born March 6, 1950, in Rapid City, SD, to Gerald and Eva [Colling] Greenwalt. Craig was the youngest of four childrentwo older sisters: Carol Rickert and Deanna Dorsey, and an older brother: Dean Greenwalt. Upon graduating from New Underwood High School, Craig attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. He married Susie Grane on September 2, 1972 at the Chapel in the Hills in Rapid City. Later that same year, his 37-year career began at Control Data, which later evolved into Magnetic Peripherals, SCI, and finally Sanmina-SCI. He worked with the company as a Senior Quality Engineer until the facility closed its doors in 2009. Throughout his lifetime, Craig had many passionsthe greatest of which was his love of nature. Growing up on his family's farm in Owanka, SD, he developed a very spiritual connection with the world around himthe open sky, the uninterrupted vastness of the landscape, the sweet smell and stillness of fresh air, and the peaceful sound of water being carried along its pathways. This appreciation of nature led him to enjoy many outdoor activities, such as camping, fishing, hiking, and bike racing. It also gave him a unique and beautiful perspective, which was evident in the things that he created and built. Being a man of deep principles, he lived his life by setting good examples, and instilled in his children the values by which he lived. Besides placing a great deal of importance on family as a whole, Craig also took the time to cultivate a special bond with each of his children. Known and respected for his hard work, strength, and determination, he took deep pride in the many things he accomplished. His intense drive and competitive spirit was visible in everything he didfrom riding bike to coaching his son's soccer team. When Craig and Susie exchanged vows, he embarked on his life journey with his best friend and soulmate. The joy that he received from raising their family was immeasurable, and his legacy is the love that he brought into the world through them. He is survived by his wife: Susie; four children: Ashley Greenwalt, Austin [Katie] Greenwalt, Autumn Greenwalt, and Avery Greenwalt; his granddaughter: Brianna; his sister: Carol [Joe] Rickert; his brothers-in-law: Robert Dorsey and Robert [Adare] Grane; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents: Gerald and Eva; and his twin siblings: Deanne Dorsey and Dean Greenwalt. It was Craig's wish that his passing be met not with the sadness and grief, but rather with gladness in remembrance of the wonderful life that he lived. For this reason, in lieu of a traditional funeral, a gathering to celebrate Craig's life will take place from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Ramkota Inn [Pactola Room], where friends and family will be invited to share their memories of him.
