Curtis G. Johnson, 79, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Rapid City Regional Hospital surrounded by loved ones. He was born July 8, 1936 in Wall, South Dakota to Roy and Violet (Hildebrandt) Johnson. Curt was a great athlete and graduated as a proud Quinn Tuplet from Quinn High School in 1954, attended Black Hills State University and graduated in 1958. He began his career as a teacher in Broadus, Montana and then spent time in the insurance industry. Curt's professional passion and dedication for over 40 years was being a realtor for Coldwell/Banker in Rapid City. Curt was married to Judith Grapes and to this union four children were born. On November 27, 1976 he married DeAnn Cooley and became a stepfather to her five children. Curt was an avid sports fan and there was no place he would rather be than watching a local high school sporting event. Curt is survived by his wife DeAnn, his four sons Kevin (Kathy) Johnson, of Grand Junction, CO, Jay Johnson, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Scott Johnson, of Littleton, CO and Chris (Mandy) Johnson, of Goodyear, AZ; his five step-children Kathy Cooley, of Rapid City, Steve (Kathy) Cooley, of Mill Creek, WA, Michelle (Joe) Mauvais, of Phoenix, AZ, Stacey (Steve) Tschetter, of Rapid City and Mike (Amy) Cooley, of Castle Rock, CO; 6 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 2 sisters, JoAnn Hynes, of Rapid City and Gloria Whitney, of Idaho Falls, ID as well as several nieces and nephews. His parents, brother Myron, brother-in-law John Hynes and two grandchildren preceded Curt in death. A celebration of Curt's life will be held at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church in Rapid City on Friday, September 4, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Holly Sortland officiating. It was Curt's wish to be cremated. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the organization of your choice.
