Curtis Gene Simonson 82 of Rapid City passed away Friday, August 15, 2025.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00pm On Wednesday, August 20 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with a Vigil/Rosary service to follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am Thursday, August 21 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Burial will be 1:30pm at The Black Hills National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers donations can be made out to Disabled American Veterans Honor Guard PO Box 145447 Cincinnati, OH 45250-5447 or www.HelpDAV.org in Curt's name.
Curt was born February 18, 1943 in Holstein, Iowa the son of Emmett and LaVonne (Krueger) Simonson. During his childhood the family moved to Wisconsin. Upon graduating from High School Curt joined the United States Air Force in 1961. He served in active duty for twenty years with assignments in Germany, Taiwan, Texas, Vietnam, England and South Dakota.
He was married on July 7, 1965 in Darwen, England to Margaret Sylvia Overton. To this union two children were born, Amanda Lee and Dustin Mark. Upon retirement from the Air Force the family settled in Rapid City where he worked as a civilian on Ellsworth Air Force Base, retiring in 2008. Curt had a special love for Custer State Park and the Black Hills. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, traveling throughout the United States and watching NASCAR racing and old western movies.
He is survived by his wife Margaret of Rapid City, daughter Amanda (Brad) Price of Box Elder and son, Dustin (Susan) of Hagerstown, MD, grandchildren Brittany (Robert) Corfield, Caitlyn (Cameron) Meier, Alli (Charles) Abt, Grace Simonson and Andrew Simonson; great grandchildren Mason, Addilynn, Aubri, McKinlee and Mako.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Craig.
