Obituary

Dale George Amsbaugh, 58, died Thursday, June 20, 2012 at Rapid City Hospice House after a brief illness. Dale, the youngest of four children, was born to Douglas and Elizabeth (Betty) Amsbaugh on October 26, 1953 in Williston, ND. He lived with the family in Williston, ND, Mobridge, SD and finally Rapid City, SD. He was a huge fan of the original Star Trek series. If you know how to offer the Vulcan "Live Long and Prosper" salute you were an instant friend. If you didn't know how, you could bet that Dale would make sure you learned it! He was an avid fan of WWF Wrestling and rarely missed watching the matches on television. Recently, a close family friend started taking Dale to the Rapid City Rush hockey games. He was quickly becoming a great fan and enjoyed the games. Dale also enjoyed going to Deadwood to play the slot machines and usually came out even or a little ahead. He enjoyed drives and short trips in the Black Hills especially to Custer State Park with his aunt to feed the donkeys. He was an active member of the Cathedral Our Lady of Perpetual Help and rarely missed Mass. Frequently, Dale and his mother would be asked to take the gifts to The Alter during Mass. Dale was a client of the Black Hills Workshop and Training Center where he was employed as a custodian for 22 years. Quick with a friendly smile and eager to lend a helping hand when needed he was loved dearly by all that knew him and he will be greatly missed. Family and friends will gather for the Christian Wake Service and Rosary at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Our Lady Chapel, in Rapid City, at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012 with Rev. William Zandri presiding. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2012, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help with Rev. Michel Mulloy and Rev. Nathan Sparks presiding. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, at 11:30 a.m. Dale is survived by his mother Elizabeth (Betty) M. Amsbaugh, Rapid City, his brother James C. Amsbaugh and his partner David V. Lindner of King George, Virginia, his sister Beverly J. (Amsbaugh) Raymond of Baraboo, Wisconsin, a brother in law Edward (Sam) J. Bassett, Minocqua, Wisconsin, a niece Kristin M. (Bassett) Simpson and her husband Matthew, Rockford, Illinois, a nephew James D. Raymond, Baraboo, Wisconsin, and several aunts, uncles and cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas C. Amsbaugh, and an older sister, Elaine M. (Amsbaugh) Bassett, his maternal and paternal grandparents, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family requests that expressions of sympathy in Dales' memory be made to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help 520 Cathedral Drive, Rapid City, SD 57701 or Black Hills Workshop and Training Center, PO Box 2104 Rapid City, South Dakota 57709
