Obituary

Dale was born to Bert Best and Helen Zabka Best in Hastings, Nebraska. He became the big brother to his sister, Bernie, in 1932. Dale spent his life growing up in Nebraska, Laramie, Wyoming, and San Gabriel, California. The day he graduated high school he left California for Nebraska and the Midwest that he enjoyed. He spent time on the Zabka family farm, worked at Fendrick Brothers Welding, Humlicek Furniture Store, and Steffensmeier Motors in Dodge before his service in the Army. Dale served in the Korean War and was proud of his service to his country. While in Dodge, he met his future wife, Mildred Wiese. Dale and Millie were married January 3, 1953, and as he passed, they were so proud of their 71 + years of marriage. To this union they welcomed four children who now survive; Carol (Russ) Jobman, Sharon (John) Hughes, Kay Best, and Dave (Nikki) Best.  Their family grew with the addition of grandchildren, Mark and Luke Jobman, Mike, Dan, and Liz Hughes, Casey Best, and Brooke Best. The family continued to grow with an addition of 15 great grandchildren.

Dale's lifelong career was in law enforcement primarily in the town of Dodge, NE. He also served as an officer in adjoining counties in rural Nebraska. Dale enjoyed the rural lifestyle of the Midwest and spent his time hunting, fishing, camping, and boating. He involved family in these adventures and to this day the Best kids enjoy the lake vacations that are so fondly remembered in northern Minnesota.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents: sister, Bernie: as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and friends. According to his wishes, Dale was cremated, and a celebration or life will be held at a later date.
