RAPID CITY-Dale Douglas Hegg was born on January 7, 1942, to Walter and Esther (Helseth) Hegg. The middle son of three boys, he was raised on a farm in the Woonsocket area, attended country school and graduated from Woonsocket High School. Dale went on to further his education by obtaining an accounting degree from Huron College. Dale worked for Northwestern Public Service in Redfield before beginning employment with several state agencies in Pierre. Dale worked for the Department of Education as a finance officer for 28 years prior to his retirement. He also worked for several nonprofit organizations in Pierre before moving to Rapid City in 2005. When all the moving was settled, Dale took a part-time job at Jolly Lane Greenhouse in the spring of 2007 and worked there for six summers. During his time at the greenhouse, one of his jobs was to oversee the care of the rose bushes for which he became known as the "rose man." Due to declining health, Dale was unable to continue his summer employment at the greenhouse. Dale enjoyed being the "chauffeur" for granddaughter Madisyn; family was his passion. Dale was a quiet person but when he spoke people listened to what he had to say. Dale passed away on Sunday, September 7, with his family by his side, following a brief stay at the Rapid City Regional Hospice Auxiliary House. Grateful for sharing in his life are wife Jennifer; daughter Nicole; granddaughter Madisyn; and brother Marion (Joan), and many other family members and friends. His passing has broke our hearts but he is now at rest. Memorial services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 10 at Zion Lutheran Church, 4550 S. Highway 16, Rapid City. Burial will take place later at the Medicine Hill Cemetery at Harrold, SD.
