Dale Scheurer, 76, died at his rural Rapid City home on Tuesday, March 4, 2008. Maurice Dale Scheurer was born on May 19, 1931, in Rapid City, to Charles and Eunice (Miller) Scheurer. He grew up in Rapid City and on the family ranch near Rochford. He graduated from Rapid City High School and entered the Air Force in 1950. He served in Korea and in Oakland, CA. On April 20, 1952, he was united in marriage to Roberta Alice Woods in Rapid City. After his discharge from the Air Force in 1953, the couple returned to Rapid City, where they made their home. Dale was employed by the Old Home Bakery for a few years and then became an independent insurance broker. He sold insurance for 30 years. Dale loved to ride horses and had a horse ranch out off of Nemo Road. He loved to travel and do trail rides as well. He was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, VFW and Eagles Club. Survivors include his children, Sandra Fairbrother, her husband Ken, and their family, Steven Dale Scheurer, his family, and Stan Scheurer, his wife Kelly, and their family, all of Rapid City. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Alice in March of 2001. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. today at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Blvd., in Rapid City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 7, at the First Christian Church, 710 Quincy St., in Rapid City with Ken Fairbrother and Marvin Flowers officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273, will follow in Black Hills National Cemetery. Contributions may be given in his memory to Hospice of the Hills, First Christian Church and the American Cancer Society.
