IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dallas Richard
Krausch
August 23, 1937 – August 18, 2024
Dallas Krausch of Rapid City, SD passed to his heavenly home on August 18, 2024. Dallas was born November 23, 1937, in Valley City, North Dakota to John and Zelma (Selig) Krausch.
During his last year of high school, he was unexpectedly awarded a scholarship to Valley City State Teacher's College where he earned an Associate Degree in Elementary Education in 1959. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Evangel College, Springfield, Missouri in 1961 and a Master of Arts Degree in Education from Black Hills State College in 1967. During his retirement years he greatly enjoyed auditing classes at John Witherspoon College in Rapid City.
At the beginning of his senior year at Evangel College, Dallas met and fell in love with a brown-eyed freshman (Carolyn Gilliland) from Nebraska; they were married in 1962. After experiencing the cold North Dakota winters, Carolyn suggested that there might be warmer places to live. That prompted the move to the Black Hills of South Dakota, where they have resided since 1965.
Dallas pursued a career in education for 30 years as a teacher, guidance counselor and school administrator. Later he worked in marketing and sales. After retirement, he started a small business which generally involved yard work and snow removal.
Dallas attended church with his family for many years, and at an early age he professed faith in Jesus Christ as savior. During his lifetime he was very involved in the church, including teaching Sunday School classes, singing in the choir, and playing church league basketball and softball. In later years he memorized large portions of the book of Revelation, which he recited on several occasions. At the time of his passing, he was a member of Black Hills Community Church in Rapid City.
Dallas loved to travel, and along with the family, visited 45 states as well as Mexico and Canada. He was also an avid bike rider and joined several rides in North and South Dakota and Nebraska. For several years he was an enthusiastic participant in the Senior Olympics. He and Carolyn enjoyed hiking in the Black Hills and other locations.
Dallas is survived by his wife Carolyn; two children, Kevin Krausch of Denver, Colorado and Kathy Johnson of Center Barnstead, New Hampshire; and one sister Virginia Krausch of Longview, Washington. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Bradley Williams, Megan Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Addison Krausch, Jacob Krausch, three great grandchildren, and five nieces and nephews. Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, John and Zelma Krausch and three siblings: Wallace, Kermit, and Verna Lund.
A memorial service will be held at Black Hills Community Church, 618 East Elk Street in Rapid City on Saturday, September 21, 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Art Sartorius officiating. Inurnment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Rapid city, at a later date.
