Obituary

Danny "Dan" Lee Duncan, 77, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2021, in the early morning hours - on his own schedule so as to not inconvenience anyone.

Dan was born on August 3, 1944, in Faulkton, SD, to Harold and Gladys Duncan. His fond childhood memories included playing baseball with the Seneca Junior Legion Team, All-State High School football, but never a track star as he was known to run like a sewing machine (really fast in one place).

After graduating from Southern State College with a Mechanics Degree, he was drafted into the US Army and completed 2 years of Service with a tour in Vietnam. After an honorable discharge, he went back to college and completed his business degree at National College in Rapid City, SD.

Dan was married to Barb Bent on October 11, 1964, and they eventually made their home in Rapid City.

Dan worked for Sears and later owned and operated The Fence Connection, Inc., until his retirement in 2004. In his retirement, he enjoyed golf, breakfast with his car club buddies, traveling in the RV, fishing in Canada and at the River with his fishing buddies, hunting, enjoyed summers at the lake cabin at Angostura, the warm Arizona sun and their winter home, driving his 55 Chevy and 48 International KB-2 Pick-up to countless car shows, he loved the birds and hated the squirrels in the yard and last but not least his #1 priority was his family. They were his pride and joy and he never missed the opportunity to cheer them on, offer advice, take them for a ride, do building projects, puzzles, paying ridiculous amounts of money for menial jobs, always picking up the bill, and of course listening to all of their stories and adventures. We will attempt to carry on his motto: If you are early you are on time, If you are on time you are late, If you are late its unacceptable.

His loving family includes his wife Barb; daughters Danielle (Tim) Van Pelt and Angi (Barry) Edwards; grandkids Jade, Emily, Mylee, Brendan and Brooks; sister Jean Deiter; and brother Dave (Carol) Duncan. His extended family Claude and Karen Bent, Judie and Rich Peterson, Nancy and Mike Grunewaldt, Aunt Joyce McQuown and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Bill and Jean Bent, sister June Duncan, brother-in-law Doyle Deiter and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
