Darrel D. Lewis, 82, Rapid City, died June 14, 2017 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico after attending his grandsons' wedding along with many of his family.
He was born on October 22, 1934 in Doland South Dakota, to Esther Stillwell.
After graduating from Doland High School in 1953, Darrel enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served honorably until 1957. While in the Marine Corp he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and Korea. After his discharge in 1957 Darrel returned home to Doland and took up farming. While in Doland he met and married Cleola M. Brosmire of Hill City S.D. on August 3, 1959. To this marriage came three children Brian, Kim, and Mark. After his marriage, he began his career with the Sooper Dooper Grocery Store starting in Redfield. He worked there until 1979 when he moved to Rapid City. Once in Rapid City he continued working for Sooper Dooper grocery store as manager until his retirement in 1996.
He enjoyed fishing with his buddies, camping, spending time with his grandchildren and travelling with Cleola.
He is survived by his wife, Cleola of Rapid City his children, Brian Lewis and fiancee (Sherrey Heisler) of Rapid City, Mark (Velma) Lewis, Grisham, OR, and Kim Lewis (Dennis Siron) Broomfield, CO, grandchildren; Derrick Lewis, Phoenix AZ, Deidra (John) Bonetti, Maui HI, Matt, Leslie (Adje) Siron Dekker and Eric (Jessica) Siron, Bloomfield, CO, great grandchildren; Breeze and Bodhi Bonetti, of Maui Hawaii, his brother, Vince (Joyce) Lewis, Norfolk, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Darlene and brothers; Web, Loyd and Bob.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2016 from 5:00pm until 6:00pm at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held at 10:00am, Friday, June 23 at Osheim & Schmidt funeral home with Pastor Greg Kroger officiating.
Interment with military honors will be at Mt View Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the Children's Park at Red Rocks.
