Darrel G. Peterson, 86, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024, at The Village in Rapid City, SD. Darrel was born August 11, 1938 in DeSmet, SD to Walter and Gertrude Peterson.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Darrel never met a stranger wherever he went. He was a generously helpful and kind friend to everyone he met. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with all those grand and great-grandchildren.

Darrel served in the South Dakota National Guard from 1958-1961. He specialized in foreign car mechanics as a trade, being the only Porsche mechanic in South Dakota for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marcia F. Peterson, his son, Ron (Jodi) Peterson, his daughter Dana Luxem, step-children Steve (Gretchen) Lundeen, Marin (Todd) Schultz, Seth (Meaghan) Lundeen, John Mark (Autumn) Lundeen, sixteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, brothers Dale (Susie) Petersen, Dennis Petersen, and Neal Petersen, along with his former wife, June Peterson.  Darrel was preceded in death by his daughter, Darla Peterson, parents Walter and Gertrude Peterson, sister Deloris, brother Duane, sisters in law Vickie and Pam and cousin, Alice.

A memorial service will be held at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2024. Light refreshments and fellowship will follow the service.
