RAPID CITY – Darrell C. Anderson passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at the age of 85.
Darrell was born on March 24, 1931, in Newell, SD, to Carl and Carrie Anderson. He graduated from Newell High School in 1949 before attending Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served during the Korean War. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Betty J. Knutson, on June 7, 1953. They returned to the family farm and ranch in Newell, where they started their own family. They moved to Rapid City, SD, in June of 1971 where he owned the John Deere dealership. He later owned and operated Anderson Manufacturing and Repair for many years. He retired as a Millwright Machinist from Merillat in 1995. He worked at American Concrete from where he retired a second time. He ultimately retired a third time from Manufacturing Solutions in 2014.
Darrell will always be remembered as a talented machinist and inventor, known for his patented Portable Hydraulic Wool Sacker. He had a quick wit and an infectious giggle. He was a kind and generous man who loved God and his family. He will be dearly missed.
Darrell is survived by four children, Stuart Anderson of Anchorage, AK, Darla (Ron) Carlson of Anchorage, AK, Curt (Nancy) Anderson of Wheat Ridge, CO, and Janelle (Jan) Anderson of Rapid City, SD, daughter-in-law, Jackie Anderson of Houston, TX, his brother Roy Anderson of Castle Rock, CO, his sister Aileen "Andy" Thares of Rapid City, SD, sister-in-law Cedilia Anderson of FL, twelve grandchildren, Carrie, Chris and Claire Anderson, Michael (Lesley) and Katie Anderson, Ryan, Ashley and Jake Carlson, Kaley Anderson, Nicolas Cabrera, Ariah Van Buskirk and Piper Jerry and one great-grandchild, Samuel Anderson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, his loving wife, one son, Rodney Anderson, daughter, Denise Anderson, and an infant daughter.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Hills View Evangelical Free Church in Piedmont (between exits 46 and 48).
Interment with military honors will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established to Hills View Evangelical Free Church.
