Darryl Paul Young Eagle made his journey to the stars on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at the Monument Health Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.
Darryl was born on September 27, 1951 at Fort Yates, ND to Paul Isaac Young Eagle and Louise Good Iron Young Eagle.
Darryl attended grade school at Fort Yates, ND and Pierre Indian School, Pierre, SD. He graduated from Flandreau Indian School, Flandreau, SD 1971. He joined the Marine Corps after graduating from high school.
He was a hard worker, and worked numerous jobs as a janitor at Mother Butler, various jobs doing yard work and with moving companies in Rapid City, before he retired due to health problems.
Darryl is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Louise Young Eagle; sister, Vera Young Eagle; son, Derek Young Eagle; uncles: Edmund Young Eagle, Benny Callousleg; cousins: Germaine Keeps Eagle, Geraldine Silk, Nephew Kevin Martin; granddaughter, Becca Miller; and nephew, “Shawn Boy’’ Killspotted.
He is survived by his sisters: Pauline Ashley, Marianne (Robert) Young Eagle Morin; cousin, Paul Keeps Eagle; niece, Evangeline Cooper; numerous nieces and nephews; his best friend, Tony Garcia; nephews: Bob and Tony Branch, Cory Walks, Jaycee and Donovan Killspotted; cousin, Keith Good Iron friends, Zane and Ellie; his 39 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; his beloved pets Dalton (the boss) Mac, Nubs (his adopted cat). He loved all his friends he met throughout his lifetime.
A special thank you to all the nurses at Dialysis, Jeremy and Lashay at the Heart and Vascular Unit at Monument and the Hospice Nurse and Staff.
If we forgot anyone, it wasn’t intended. Thank you to everyone who sent prayers and condolences.
His visitation will be 9:00 am to 10:00 am Thursday, July 30, at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church with Funeral Service to follow at 10:00 am.
Burial will be 10:00 am Monday, August 3, at Pine Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
