Box Elder – Daryl Leanhart, Sr, 72, died Friday, June 26, 2026 at Avantara Mountain View Nursing Home in Rapid City.

Daryl Randall Leanhart was born December 5, 1953 in Helena, Montana to Jack Eugene and Willena Arlene (Toney) Leanhart.

He attended school in Townsend, Montana and graduated from Broadwater High School in 1972. He entered the United States Air Force and retired August in 1994 as a Tech Sergeant.

He married Debra Joyce Shults on May 27, 1972 in Raymond, Washington. They were later divorced in 1996, but remained friends.

Daryl is survived by two sons: Daryl Leanhart, Jr of Rapid City and Timothy (Rebecca) Leanhart of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter: Jennifer Barta of Rapid City; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers: Martin Leanhart of Butte, Montana and Jack (Sandy) Leanhart of San Antonio, Texas; and two sisters: Pamela Oleson of San Antonio, Texas and Teena Leanhart of San Antonio, Texas

He was preceded in death by his parents and an older sister: Glennis Davenport.

Services will be held at a future date and burial of cremains will take place in the family section in the Deep Creek Cemetery in Townsend, Montana.
