Rapid City - David R. Gorsuch, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 03, 2015 at the Rapid City Regional Hospice Auxiliary House. David was born in Rapid City, SD. on November 24, 1926 to Raymond and May Gorsuch. He was 2nd in a family of six. He grew up in Fairburn, SD and started driving truck with his Dad at the age of 14. He joined the Army and was given an honorary discharge, due to a broken back. David went to college and received a teaching degree, graduating from Black Hills State College in Spearfish. He taught school for over 46 years, with the majority of those years being at Rapid City Central High School teaching the kids Basic Electricity and Math. He retired in the early 1990's. David married his wife June on June 4, 1976. David kept his family first and was always with his kids as they were active at such places as Harney Little League and the many wrestling events. Any type of activity that his kids were in, he was sure to be there to support his family. David and June spent their time camping, hunting, gardening and canning. He also made jewelry out of deer horns, walnuts, and wood that he sold in various Keystone stores called "Uneek Jewelry". They also enjoyed going to the Gorsuch family reunions, where David would show off his many talents of singing and playing various instruments. His greatest of passions was fishing and spending time with his kids and grandkids. You could usually find David, June and a family member fishing at one of the stock ponds or creeks up in Custer State Park. He passed on to his family a strong work ethic, love of the outdoors, kindness to people and animals and always the thought of keeping Family first. David was the foundation of the Gorsuch family and will be missed and loved by all. He is survived by his wife: June Gorsuch of Rapid City; five sons: Duane [Joanne] Gorsuch of Weslaco, TX, Mike [Connie] Gorsuch of Riverton, WY, David [Tammy] Gosuch of Rapid City, SD, Jeff [Pam] Gorsuch of Burbank, CA, and Brian Gorsuch of Omaha, NE; three daughters: Genie Loghry of Coolridge, AZ, Robin [Rich] Whipple of Rapid City, and Christy Hashisaki of Maricopa, AZ; four step children: Robert [Diana] Borgialli of Buffalo, WY, Judy [Chris] Hansen of Eagle Point, OR, Cindy [Randy] Black of Belfry, MT, and Dianne [Rich] Farris of Buffalo, WY; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and sisters, and two grandsons. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm Sunday, November 8 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard. His funeral service will be 10:00 am Monday, November 9, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, 629 Kansas City Street, Rapid City. Burial will follow at the Fairburn Cemetery at Fairburn.
