Guiser
April 17, 1935 – January 27, 2026
RAPID CITY – David R. Guiser, 90, died Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Westhills Village Healthcare.
David was born on April 17, 1935 at Quinn, SD. He was the son of Paul and Mae (McGregor) Guiser. He grew up in the Quinn, Martin, and Rapid City area, attending several country schools around Quinn and the Quinn grade school through the eighth grade. He attended New Underwood High School during his freshman and sophomore years and Rapid City High School his junior and senior years, graduating with the class of 1953.
Starting at age 12, David spent the summer months at his father’s farm at Martin, and not enjoying the country life as much as the city life, he decided to pursue his education. He then attended SDSU at Brookings for one year and South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in Rapid City for one year before entering the US Army in 1957. After his honorable discharge in 1960, he returned to SDSM&T for two more years, majoring in electrical engineering.
David was united in marriage to the love of his life, Noreene K. Belmont on August 16, 1964 in Hill City. They lived and worked in Rapid City until August 1966 then moved to Longmont, Colorado upon his employment with IBM Boulder after 26 enjoyable, challenging and rewarding years, he took early retirement from IBM in 1992, then worked for several smaller companies in the Longmont area until fully retiring in 2000, when they moved back to Rapid City.
In his younger years, David enjoyed hunting, especially deer and pheasant. After moving to Colorado, Noreene and he loved the Colorado mountains, and enjoyed drives, picnicking, and hiking to see and experience the beauty of nature. They also immensely enjoyed a number of sightseeing vacations to other areas of the country.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Noreene, in 2006; his father, Paul, in 1999; his mother, Iva Mae McGregor Guiser Engelhardt in 2011; his stepmother in 1987, stepbrother in 1986, and stepfather in 1956.
Survivors include his half-sister, Alice (Bill) Hickman, Rapid City; half-brother, Edward (Wendy) Engelhardt, Rapid City; cousins, many in-laws and friends.
