Obituary

David Michael Salter passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 after a long battle with Lewy body dementia.

He was born on March 26, 1949 to Mary Dudley and James Salter in Holyoke Massachusetts. Dave attended Chicopee Comprehensive High School in 1963 where he met and started dating his future wife, Linda Lowe when they were juniors.

In 1967 after high school Dave attended the University of Massachusetts on a golf scholarship. He joined ROTC and graduated in 1971 as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force and the very next weekend the happy couple was married. Their first assignment was to Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina. There they had their son, Jeffrey Michael, the pride and joy of his life. They then got stationed at three different Air Force bases in California ending up at Beale Air Force Base, where Dave was a radar navigator in B-52s. Their next assignment landed them in Rapid City to continue in B-52s. Dave then was assigned to the Air Force Academy, where he taught aviation science for three years. He ended his Air Force career back in the B-1 program at Ellsworth, where he retired after 20 years in the Air Force.  He then became the assistant golf professional at Arrowhead Country Club. Later he worked at Sodak and IGT gaming, but always said his favorite job was getting up at 5 AM to mow the greens at Hart Ranch golf course.

He loved golf and all sports, was definitely one of the biggest Red Sox fans around, and had Bronco season tickets for 20 years.

He leaves behind many wonderful friends and family, his wife, Linda of 52 years their son, Jeff, his children, Riley, and Adam, Jeff's wife, Canada, her children, Layton and Taylon and Riley and Adam's mom, Susan, as well as so many dear friends from the Air Force, Rapid City, and especially Heart Ranch.

A private family inurnment of his ashes will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery followed by a celebration of life at BIN 605 on Monday, November 13 at 1 PM. Please join us in this celebration.

In lieu of flowers donations are being accepted to the SDGA Junior Golf Foundation at https://www.sdga.org/jr-golf-foundation/giving/
