David Johnson
Noble
February 4, 1937 – April 16, 2026
David Johnson Noble was born February 4, 1937 to Irene and Harvard Noble in Mitchell, South Dakota and passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026 in Rapid City, South Dakota. As a very young man he began working in his father's Noble and Son's Funeral Home in Mitchell and spent many hours caddying for his father playing golf. Golf became a priority in David's life and he was about to go on tour when he was involved in an automobile accident which made the tour impossible. He attended the University of Miami, Florida and obtained his Master's Degree from National American University in Rapid City, South Dakota.
David began teaching golf and became a life-time member of the PGA in 1974. He became especially successful with the First Tee of Tucson, Arizona training volunteer coaches and kids the Great Game of Golf with emphasis on creating exceptional life skills.
David also wrote a fun and entertaining golf column for the Rapid City Journal as well as teaching a golf class for seniors over 50 for the Career Learning Center Community Education program. One of his students, Bill Schulz, wrote a book about David, "Golf the Noble Way."
With gratitude for the last years of his life with Cancer and Parkinson's David wished to especially thank Dr. Goodhope, Dr. Kuzman, and Dr. Swartz as well as the staff at Unity Assisted Living at Good Samaritan and his final days at Monument Health Hospital and Fountain Springs Nursing Home in Rapid City. He was especially grateful to Father Michel Mulloy who spent many hours visiting and bringing kindness and love of Jesus to him.
David is survived by his wife, Priscilla Noble, his sister Julie Holmes of Canon City, Colorado and cousin Melissa Noble of Vancouver, Washington.
Memorials may be sent to the First Tee of South Dakota, 2600 West Russell Street, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57104.
Visitation will be 4:00pm-5:30pm Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. A Celebration of his life will 5:30pm Wednesday May 20 at the funeral home. Private family burial will take place in Rapid City.
