RAPID CITY--David M. Scott died Friday, November 21, 2008, at the age of 39 at his home in Rapid City, SD after fighting a very brave battle with cancer. David was born on January 24, 1969 to Edith J (Ratliff) and Virgil M. Scott in Denver, Colorado. The family settled in Ellsworth AFB, SD after returning stateside from Okinawa Japan. David grew up in the Rapid City area, attending Dakota Jr. High and Stevens High Schools. He later moved to Denver Colorado and attended Denver Automotive and Diesel College. In 2000 David returned to Rapid City and worked as a finish carpenter, most recently working for Riss Construction until his failing health forced him to retire at such an early age. David loved spending time with his wife and children, watching the children race their dirt bikes. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and being outdoors. David was a very hard worker and took pride in doing a good job. He has left his mark on Rapid City, there are several houses displaying his dedication and attention to fine wood work and trim detail. David is survived by his wife, Mandy Selby; daughter Jade Selby and son Jacob Scott all at home. In addition he is survived by his mother, Edie Gebauer (Thomas) DeWitt, IA; brother Artie Scott (Stephanie), Rapid City; and sister Renee Shull (Randy) Scranton, KS; Uncles James Ratliff, Robert Ratliff (Donna), John Ratliff (Diane), Don Ratliff (Ann) and Aunts Jane Berlin (Robert) and Karen Moore (Rick), and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home inn Rapid City with Pastor Paul Lloyd officiating. A memorial for his childrens education can be made to the Jade Selby and Jacob Scott Education Memorial fund at Wells Fargo Bank in Rapid City, SD.
