David John Shultz, 75, passed away peacefully at home in Rapid City on Sunday, March 3, 2024.

David was born to Delton and Rachel (Hayen) Shultz in Mitchell.   He graduated from Rapid City High School in 1966.  David was drafted into the US Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam.  He spent much of his career in transportation working for Barber Transportation and later, Hyman Freightway.

On September 21, 1996, he married Loretta Nold and grew his family to include four stepchildren whom he loved as well.

David enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and meticulously maintaining the yard at his home.  When he found time to relax, he enjoyed watching TV while eating M&M's along with a Coke.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Loretta Shultz, his stepson, Paul O'Connell (Kim Nelson), stepdaugters; Tara O'Connell (Matt Heinrich), Amy Tietjen (Steve), and Heather Mesek, sister, Robin Schager (Doug), Brother in law Bill Middleton, one niece, five nephews, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sharon Middleton.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.  Burial will be held privately at Black Hills National Cemetery.
