David Wagenaar, 73, Rapid City, died at his home on Friday, April 22, 2016 after being recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

He was born February 26, 1943 at Volga, SD, the son of Noel and Ruth (Mannerud) Wagenaar. David attended school at Bruce, SD and graduated in 1961.

David worked for Mannerud Construction of Brookings as they completed a section of Interstate 90 near New Underwood, SD.

He met Judy Riggert and they were married on December 28, 1963. David spent the next several years doing road construction for C.H. Lein and Summit Inc of Rapid City. David then drove a propane transport truck for AmeriGas, (formerly Cal Gas), for 17 years until he suffered a stroke in August of 1987 and he became disabled. While he was driving truck he was a member of the Terrific Truckers Association and enjoyed many camping and dance events.

David was able to enjoy the winter months in Casa Grande for the last 20 years. He also was able to travel with his wife and grandsons to all 50 states including cruises to Hawaii and Alaska.

David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy, his daughter and son in law, Vicky and Tony Litzinger of Douglas, WY; two grandsons; Tad Litzinger of Sheridan, WY and Jared Litzinger, Douglas, WY, Twin great grandsons, Brantley and Sawyer of Sheridan, WY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Wayne and an infant brother.

A visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, April 26 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Pastor Wilbur Holz officiating.

Interment will be at Mt View Cemetery.
