Edgemont - DEAN E. HARROD, 86, passed away on March 24, 2022 at Avantara Mt. View in Rapid City after prolonged illnesses took away his ability to walk and a brief time with terminal cancer. He is now free of the earthly body that constrained him - free to walk, run, and build whatever he wishes.
Dean was born in 1935 to Kenneth and Joy Harrod in Gillette, WY. He spent his childhood and most of his adulthood in Edgemont. After highschool, Dean served in the Army at the end of the Korean War and beginning of the Vietnam War. Later he worked in the oil fields of Texas, built homes and served his community as a firefighter in Las Vegas, NV until 1975. He then relocated his family to Edgemont where he worked for and retired from Burlington Northern/Sante Fe Railroad.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Joy Harrod, and sister, Loree Darling. He is survived by his daughters, Nedra Harrod, Dena Harrod, Ranee Harrod, and Tina (Del) Harrod-Voth; four grand-daughters and one great-grandson; brother, Kenny (Joyce) Harrod, two sisters, Ardis and Irma Harrod, and a niece and nephews. Throughout his years in Edgemont, Dean considered many a friend and more. Edgemont was his home. His family thanks those who helped and cared for him during the last years of his life there. Dean will be laid to rest at the Black Hills National Cemetary, Sturgis, SD.
