Dean S. Murray, 85, of Hill City, died at the Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House on Thursday, March 5, 2015. Dean was born on August 3, 1929, in Nisland, SD, and raised by Donald and Alvis (Spencer) Murray. He attended rural Nisland schools and graduated from Hill City High School in 1947. He served for 2 years in the Navy on an aircraft carrier. After the service he lived in California and was married there. A son Gary and a daughter Kathy were born there. Dean returned to Hill City in 1958, and he was united in marriage to Dianne Clines in 1959. They had 3 children, twins, Deana and Dawn and a son, Charles. He worked in Rapid City as a machinist for CP Clare and then operated heavy equipment for Bill Clayson & Sons. He and Dianne were also business owners and ran the Double D Drug Store for a number of years in Hill City. He retired in 1991. Dean was a huge football fan, especially of the Steelers, and he also loved to read and study military history. He also played "Morgan" in the old west shoot-out re-enactment in Hill City for many years. Survivors include his wife, Dianne; 3 daughters, Deana (James 'Barry') Parrish, Northfield, MA and Dawn (Dan) Bruess, St. Paul, MN and Kathy Murray, Belding, MI; a brother, Robert 'Bob' (Nellie) Murray, Condon, OR; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sons, Gary and Charles Murray. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 pm on Wednesday, March 11, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 am on Thursday, March 12, at the Little White Church in Hill City with the Rev. Ron Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Hill City Cemetery.
