Delbert Harris, 98, died Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at his residence in Rapid City.

Delbert Everett Harris was born April 2, 1926 in Alliance, Nebraska to Stephen Foster and Phoebe Elizabeth (Yant) Harris. He attended school in Lead, SD and graduated from Lead High School.

Delbert served in the United States Navy from July 29, 1944 thru June 5, 1945, when he was honorably discharged from the Separation Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He then attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City and received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1951.

He married Shirley Larson on July 31, 1954 in Portland, Oregon. They moved to California in 1955, settled in the Anaheim area and bought a house. They moved to Rapid City on December 25, 1990 and have continued to live here until his death.

Survivors include their daughter: Nancy (Art) Edwards of Lewisville, Texas; one granddaughter: Andrea Edwards; two nieces and one nephew whom they raised after the death of their parents: Linda Larson, Carol (Mike) Dawson, and Lowell Larson.

Visitation for Delbert and Shirley will be 10:00 am Friday, August 28 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Memorial Service at 11:00 am.

Burial Service will be 12:30 pm Friday, August 28 at Black Hills National Cemetery and there will be Military Honors for Delbert performed by the Rushmore VFW Post #1273 Honor Guard and the United States Navy Honor Team.
