RAPID CITY--Delpha Phillips, age 88, passed away peacefully at the Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House on Monday, January 11, 2010, with her family by her side. Delpha was born on October 25, 1921, at Tulare, SD, to Joe and Ruby (Otto) Rawstern. She attended Borah Grade School and graduated from Bonilla (SD) High School in 1939. After graduation she moved to Dawson, MN, where she married George Phillips on December 5, 1939. Delpha and George worked on farms near Dawson and Montevideo, MN, and moved back to the Bonilla area in 1942 to start farming. In 1958 they bought their own farm (the former Cooper farm,) and lived there until 1978, when George's poor health forced them to retire and move to a warmer climate. Their 22 wonderful years in Arizona were spent primarily in Apache Junction. They toured the United States in their motor home during the summer months and had memorable vacations to Alaska, Hawaii and Europe. They also enjoyed years of square dancing, playing cards and socializing with their many friends in Arizona. Again in 2000, poor health brought them back to Rapid City, where they spent 7 years at the Echo Ridge Community. Delpha was a former member and elder of the Bonilla Presbyterian Church, and most recently was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rapid City. Delpha was a wonderful, caring mother, as well as a best friend to her daughters. She dearly loved her grandchildren and her great "grands" were a special pride and joy for her. Delpha was loved by everyone who knew her. Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Sharon (Virgil) Gamber, of Rapid City and Barbara Carazzo, of Barnegat, NJ; 3 grandchildren, Denise (Ken) Twichel, of Billings, MT, Stephanie (Michael) Iannelli, of Bayville, NJ and Robert (Heidi) Gamber, of Longmont, CO; 7 great-grandchildren, Marcus and Teresa Twichel, Ian and Erick Iannelli, and Ryan, Mia and Emma Gamber. Delpha is also survived by her sister, Luella Wipf, of Rapid City; a brother-in-law, Dean Dawson, of Enumclaw, WA and a sister-in-law, Philles Phillips, of Bagley, MN. Delpha was preceded in death by her husband, George in 2004, her parents and four sisters. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Jan. 13, from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. A second visitation will be on Thursday, Jan. 14, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., with the family present, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron with the Rev. officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens in Huron.
