Dianne Ella Abell, 74, of Rapid City, died Tuesday, October 11, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. She was born January 19, 1937, to Bernard and Helen Hotzler in Bradley, SD. She grew up and attended school in Bradley, graduating from high school in 1956. She then moved to Sioux Falls, SD where she worked for John Morrell meat packing company. While there she married her high school sweetheart, Charles L. Abell, Jr., on October 31, 1956 in Luverne, MN. Dianne and Charles lived in Ogden UT, Casper WY, Broomfield CO, and finally ended up back home in South Dakota settling in Rapid City. During this time she worked as a stay at home mom, cafeteria worker for Boulder schools, cafeteria manager for K-Mart, and worked for an electronics firm before returning to being a stay at home wife again. Dianne was active in her church, Calvary Lutheran Church, where she assisted with funerals, helped during meals, folding bulletins and anything else that was needed. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed crocheting, knitting and word puzzles. Dianne is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles, her children, Alan (Carol) of Elk River, MN, Rob (Kittie) of Front Royal, VA and Todd of Elizabeth, CO; her sister, Sheryl Calley (Herb) of Granite Falls, MN; her brother, Barry Hotzler (Cindi) of Oakdale, MN and grandchildren Bradley, Laura, Julia, Kathleen and Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dennis (Duke) Hotzler. Visitation will be from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Friday, Oct 14, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 A.M. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dwight Stensgaard officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her name.
